Born and raised in Inglewood, California, Louie Ski Carr is a classically trained Actor who began his career as one of the most popular dancers in the longest-running first-run, nationally syndicated program in television history, Soul Train.Establishing an astounding fan base, which included, not only the general public, but celebrity admirers as well-Carr, went on to tour with multi-platinum, R&B pop sensation New Edition as a dancer and mentor to the then teen group.His passion for performing naturally led Carr seek out new expressions for his powerful stage presence and after taking a day to "pray on it" his answers led him back to school, where he took every theatre class offered at El Camino Collage.Discovering that the world outside the rough parameters of Inglewood lay only one fine playwright away, Carr continued his training with world renowned acting coach Milton Katselas, honing his craft for nearly seven years before Katselas' passing. Carr has played such wonderfully diverse roles as as Walter Lee, in A Raisin in the Sun, Crooks, in Of Mice and Men, Big Julie in Guys and Dolls, Donald, in You Can't Take It With You and Cleante, in Tartuffe. Falling in love with the classics soon challenged Carr to endeavor Shakespeare, and he has enjoyed playing some of the bard's greatest roles. He has been seen as Theseus, in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Don John, in Much Ado about Nothing, Petruchio, in Taming of the Shrew, all of which ultimately led to his playing the title role in Othello, a part Carr seems made for.Carr is also proud of starring in the award winning, original production of Champion, written by Dave Paladino and directed by Tommy Hicks. This story, about a young man raised as a "dark Italian," only to discover his biological father is a dissolute and fading black man, (played by Carr) is based on the true-life events of Mr. Paladino, and was first featured on NPR's Award Winning Show. Champion opened to all around rare views in Los Angeles, winning numerous prestigious awards, before touring North Carolina, Miami, Sacramento and most notably, a celebrated off-Broadway production in New York.Since that time, Carr's focus has been in film and television work, but he was thrilled to return to the stage this year, after an almost eleven year absence, once again playing Don John, in Much Ado About Nothing.
